Halloween has always been one of my favorite holidays. It has it all. You get to put on a mask or disguise to be whoever you want, and then you get to knock on the doors of strangers and get free stuff (the other 364 days of the year this is called burglary). You are allowed, and often times even expected, to do anything to scare the socks off of people. Plus you get to make gourd art to show your friends. What more could you ask for in a holiday? For my entire adult life I have been a student of Zen Buddhism. One of the major ideas that is focused upon in Buddhism is the notion that everything in the universe is constantly changing. No two moments from the beginning of time up to now have been exactly the same. When you apply this concept to your life, this means that as people we are also in a permanent state of change. I am 27 years old, weigh 55 pounds, have almost no muscle tone, and have spent my entire life using a power wheelchair. Despite the fact that I do not have the strength to even feed myself, numerous people have told me that I am the strongest person they know. These conflicting notions make more sense when you realize that we are not talking about strength in the typical way.
