Last fall, I wrote a blog for MDA Transitions about my journey of becoming comfortable enough to begin using my handicap tag more frequently. Since then, I have been thinking more and more about those blue, plastic tags and what they really mean to disabled people, old and young. Just knowing a close spot will be available to me gives me the motivation to go out more often. So, in a sense, those pieces of plastic don't symbolize an affliction, but rather independence, flexibility and accommodation.

Government Funding for NMD Research Largely Spared in Continuing Resolution

Government programs that fund neuromuscular disease research fared well in the recent continuing resolution passed by Congress on March 21. The continuing resolution funds the government through the end of September 2013. The continuing resolution does not avert pending cuts caused by the sequester. MDA’s advocacy program will continue to work to ensure that congressional appropriators understand the importance of this life-altering work … as decisions are being made about funding for fiscal year 2014.
